30/11/2009
The Strokes have been confirmed as a headline act for next summer's Isle of Wight Festival.
In an announcement that is sure to see retro T-shirts and leather jackets out in force at the three-day music event, the New York rockers will top the festival bill on Saturday June 12th.
The 2010 Isle of Wight line-up looks set to have something of a Big Apple flavour, as Brooklyn-born rapper Jay-Z has been unveiled as the headline act on Friday June 11th.
Jay-z released his 11th studio album The Blueprint 3 in September, while Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas recently unveiled his debut solo effort Phrazes for the Young.
Other acts set to play at Seaclose Park in Newport include Orbital, Blondie, Pink and Squeeze.
Tickets for the festival, which was revived in 2002 after hosting legendary performances in the 1960s, will be available from December 4th.
The Isle of Wight was nominated for best major festival at this year's UK Festival Awards but lost out to Glastonbury.
