The Friday night headline slot at next year's Glastonbury festival will be occupied by U2, it has been confirmed.
Organiser Michael Eavis revealed that the Irish rock giants will play at Glastonbury for the first time ever next June, when the Somerset festival celebrates its 40th anniversary.
He said that "the 26-year-old rumour has finally come true", as U2 have been repeatedly linked with a headline appearance at Worthy Farm since the 1980s.
"At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world," Eavis added.
U2, whose Tshirts are now sure to feature in next summer's prominent festival fashions, will interrupt their North American tour to top the bill at Glastonbury on Friday June 25th.
The band released their 12th studio album, No Line on the Horizon, in February.
Earlier this month, Glastonbury was named best major festival at the UK Festival Awards in London.
