Original Karate Kid would prefer to stay on retro T-shirts
18/03/2010
How many men can honestly say that they didn't find a tie or some other piece of material to fashion into a bandana before trying to replicate some of the stunts from the Karate Kid when they were younger?
Probably not many and some of them may have been disappointed at the news that Ralph Macchio, the original Karate Kid, had turned down the chance at a cameo in the new film.
He told the Sun that appearing in the remake would be like "robbing the Karate Kid fans of their youth".
Macchio added: "No one wants to see Daniel LaRusso in his forties."
So it looks like his character is destined to remain a childhood memory and a picture on some retro T-shirts.
But the former Karate Kid did say that he's "excited" about the new version, which has been produced by Will Smith and stars his son Jaden alongside high-kicking action hero Jackie Chan.
It looks like we'll have to settle for seeing Ralph Macchio in his latest role in Ugly Betty instead then.
