David Tennant appeared as Doctor Who for the last time on New Year's Day, with over ten million people tuning in to watch his final outing.
According to viewing figures, the episode was watched by an average of 10.4 million people, which represents 36 per cent of the television audience.
Entitled The End of Time, the 75-minute episode ended with Tennant regenerating into Doctor Who's 11th incarnation, who is played by Matt Smith.
Tennant's final appearance was generally well-received by critics, with Andrew Pettie of the Daily Telegraph praising the "apocalyptic brio" of the episode, while also commending the star's "nonchalant mastery" of the Time Lord role.
Smith is a 27-year-old actor who previously appeared in the BBC political drama Party Animals.
Doctor Who has been inspiring retro T-shirts among devoted fans since the BBC series was successfully revived by Russell T Davies in 2005.
The cult sci-fi programme first aired in 1963, with William Hartnell playing the lead role.
Now could be the best time to don a political T-shirt in public.
It has been announced that the eight series of 24 will be the show's last.
