The Goonies

The Goonies

Any one who was a kid in the 80s grew up with The Goonies. It has everything a classic 80s movie should have if you were a kid back then. Not the greatest special effects (well it was the 80s) but it just doesnt matter with this film. Did you ever find yourself doing the Truffle Shuffle or razzing round on your BMX looking for treasure? Written by Steven Spielberg, and directed by Richard Donner (from The Goonies to Lethal Weapon!) a group of friends who are about to lose their houses so a country club can be built where they live. The main character Mikey's dad is a historian who has loads of junk in his attic. They happen upon a treasure map that supposedly has a legend behind it, and leads to a pirate treasure. Mikey and his bunch of friends go in search of the treasure not knowing the crooked trio the Fratellis (who break Jake Fratelli out of jail at the start - que excellent opening sequence), catch wind of their plan and are also out for the treasure. Along the way, chaos ensues, friendships go stronger, and they meet a creature who has nothing but love to share and chocolate to eat. Every character in this film is great, made by the actors who portray them. Even the Fratellis are likable in the movie, in a comedy villains way - but in the end, they get what they were asking for. This film encompasses every kids fantasy from adventure, danger, friendship through a common enemy, BMXs, skeletons, treasure and a cute girl to look at in Andi. Its funny to boot. To this day i'm still quoting lines from the film. -Mitch taylor, Greenwich, London UK Think you can do better?
