Red Hot Chilli Peppers
From their raw funk beginnings influenced by George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Parliament Funkadelic and Sly and the Family Stone the Chili’s have been with us for nearly two decades. Many fans joined them at their funk peak with the album BloodSugarSexMagik, and a new generation became hooked on the more mellow sounds of Californication and By the Way. Look back in time though and some fantastic albums can be found by the original line-up with Hillel Slovak on guitar and Jack Irons on drums such as The Uplift Mofo Party Plan (featuring an ode to the pleasures of the flesh in – Secret Song Inside) and Mothers Milk. The band have managed to keep going through thick and thin, deaths, overdoses, socks on cocks, rehab, numerous guitarists, two drummers, yoga, yoghurt, nuts, eight studio albums and working on the ninth. Throughout it all they have maintained the philosophy of four guys against the world with goon-ish grins on their faces. They used to be alternative, now everyone loves ‘em and they’re still cool.
