Then and Now: The Goonies 8Ball

Incredibly it’s been 30 years since we were introduced to The Goonies so to mark the occasion we take a look back at the cast of the legendary film and find out what they’re up to now.

Sean Astin as Michael “Mikey” Walsh

The role of Mikey was Sean Astin’s first big screen job and carried on in more films throughout the late 80s and 90s as well as directing the Academy Award nominated short film Kangaroo Court.

He’s arguably most famous for his portrayal of Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and now mainly works as a voice-over artist, including Raphael in the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series on Nickelodeon and Shazam in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies.

Corey Feldmen as Clark “Mouth” Devereaux

After The Goonies Feldmen starred in several other big 80s films, such as Stand By Me and The Lost Boys and, in another Goonies/TMNT connection, he voiced Donatello in the 1990 film version.

After a couple of music video appearances and a stint on ITV’s Dancing on Ice in 2012, Feldmen hosted his own show on FilmOn.com in 2014.

Ke Huy Quan as Richard “Data” Wang

After appearing as Short Round in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, Quan kept a relatively low profile from the big screen, last appearing in the Chinese movie Second Time Around in 2002.  He’s also worked as a stunt choreographer for X-Men and The One.

Josh Brolin as Brand “Brand” Walsh

After appearing in the Goonies, Brolin took on several stage roles before returning to the big screen in Planet Terror, Milk and the Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men with Tommy Lee Jones.

Brolin would play a younger Agent K in Men in Black 3, after Jones had portrayed the same character in the first two films, featured in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and as Thanos  in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jeff Cohen as Lawrence “Chunk” Cohen

Arguably the most infamous character due to his truffle shuffle, Cohen took on several smaller roles in film and TV in the late 80s but nothing matching the scale of the Goonies.

After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley and the UCLA School of Law he now works as an entertainment lawyer for his own practice Cohen & Gardner, LLP and occasionally writes for the Huffington Post and CNBC.

Kerri Green as Andrea “Andy” Carmichael

After appearing in smaller film and TV roles through the late 80s and early 90s Green co-founded Independent Women Artists, a movie production company which released the 1999 teen-pregnancy drama Bellyfruit.

Martha Plimpton as Stephanie “Stef” Steinbrenner

Plimpton has appeared in some of the biggest US TV shows of the last 10 years, including Law & Order, Grey’s Anatomy, Fringe and Raising Hope, for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

John Matuszak as Lotney “Sloth” Fratelli

A former American footballer and World’s Strongest Man competitor Matuszak won 2 Super Bowls with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders before retiring due to injury in 1982.  He had guest spots on TV in Dukes of Hazzard, The A-Team, Miami Vice and cheers before he died in June 1989 as a result of a prescription drug overdose.
