Fantastic Four first official trailer released ahead of August premiere

It seems to be these days that as soon as one superhero movie is announced, another follows quickly after.  In the last few weeks we’ve had the trailers released for Marvel’s Ant-Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron and now 20th Century Fox have played their Fantastic Four, stylised as Fant4stic, card.

Due to be released on 7th August and directed by Chronicle’s Josh Trank, Fox has billed the latest film as:

a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy

Take a look at the moody trailer below…

From the off it’s obvious that this run of Fantastic Four films will take on a darker tone than the 2005 version and it’s 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and here’s who we can expect to see suiting up this time.

Ahead of his role in the critically acclaimed Whiplash, Miles Teller plays Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic while House of Card’s Kate Mara will take on the role of Susan Storm/Invisible Woman.

Best known for appearing in the first season of The Wire, and the final two seasons of Friday Night Lights Michael B. Jordan will appear as Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Billy Eilliot, King Kong and Jumper star Jamie Bell will play Ben Grimm/The Thing

Dead Man’s Shoes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star Toby Kebbell will portray the antagonised Victor Domashev/Doom who has a slightly different origins story to the Doctor Doom we’re used to seeing in the comics

In an interview with Collider.com Kebbell had this to share:

He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours—I’m a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m “Doom”.

We’re still a while away from its August release but Fox have already ordered a sequel to Fantastic Four/Fant4stic (Fant5stic? 2 F4st 2 Fant4stic?) which is slated to hit screens on 2nd June 2017.

The general reception to the trailer seems to be a bit mixed, particularly on our Facebook page, but surely there’s room for another superhero film amongst all the noise?
