Star Wars Episode VIII and “Rogue One” details released

Honestly, you wait years for a Star Wars film and all of a sudden 3 come along at once.

This week Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced details of the first Star Wars spin-off movie along with some news about Star Wars Episode VIII.

Rogue One is the title given for the first film under Disney’s stewardship that branches away from the main saga, focusing on characters and events away from Skywalkers and Solos.

This will be directed by Monsters and Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards with a script written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz, known for About a Boy and Antz.

Cast and plot details are scarce right now with only Felicity Jones, fresh from her Oscar nominated role in The Theory of Everything, being the first actress cast in Rogue One which is due to be released on December 16th, 2016.

Now Bob Iger’s clearly a “two-birds-one-stone” type of guy, and in the same meeting he revealed more information about Star Wars Episode VIII, including its release date of May 27th 2017 – 40 years and a day after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977.

Episode VIII will be helmed by Rian Johnson who directed Looper as well as three of arguably the best episodes of Breaking Bad “Fly”, “Fifty-One” and “Ozymandias”.

So in little over 2 year’s time, we’ll have had 3 brand new Star Wars films released… let’s just hope they’re better than the prequel trilogy.
