He’s back! After a three year wait, punctuated by a film-stealing appearance in Avengers Assemble, Robert Downey Jnr returns to our screens on 25th April for a third outing as the eponymous Iron Man – and the new film looks even more explosive than ever.

All should be well for the rich and successful Tony Stark. As he says himself in the Iron Man trailer (which has nearly 14 million views on YouTube) “I build neat stuff, I have a great girl and occasionally, I save the world….so why can’t I sleep?” But it soon becomes clear that it is his own success as Iron Man that is troubling him. “Does the man make the suit, or does the suit make the man?” he muses.

He needn’t worry too much, because Ben Kingsley is soon on hand, as the evil Mandarin, to strip away all of Stark’s tricks and toys, forcing him to see just what he has inside himself. As Stark seeks out “good old fashioned revenge”, he also finds himself along the way.

Iron Man first appeared way back in the golden age of comic books in issue 39 of Tales of Suspense in 1963, before graduating to his own comic, The Invincible Iron Man, in 1968. Since then he has had two box office blockbusters in Iron Man and Iron Man 2, making almost  $¾billion between them, which no doubt helped to pay for the new film’s $200million production budget – including a scene with more than 20 Iron Man suits in full flight!

The new film has a new director at the helm, Shane Black, who replaces John Favreau from IM and IM2. Favreau will stay on in his screen role as Stark’s pal Happy Hogan and says he enjoyed the character so much more for having the extra freedom. Also reprising her role will be the delightful Gwyneth Paltrow, as Stark’s indispensable assistant, and now love interest, Pepper Potts.

With the film released, now is the time to suit up yourself with 8Ball’s great range of Iron Man t-shirts, including our Iron Man Power Coil t-shirt and our cool Stark Knight Rises, both part of our superb Marvel t-shirts range.

Which just leaves one question to answer: Does the man make the suit, or does the suit make the man? Is Tony Stark a superhero, or just a pilot for super technology? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below and let us know what you think when you’ve seen the film.
