The Best Geek Blogs You Need To Check Out Now

In a world of 24 hour news reports, Snapchat’s "view it before it’s gone" format and a nation of people with attention spans shorter than that of a goldfish it can be hard to keep track of what’s going on in the world around us...

*Gets distracted by something shiny in the other room for 8 minutes*

The 8ball team over the last year has become a team of loveable geeks and nerds that plan on saving the world one tee at a time. Think of us as a geeky version of The Avengers aka The Avenerds. With great geekdom comes great responsibility and that includes a lot of time discussing the latest trends, as well as our favourite movies, games, TV shows and gadgets. To find this information we jump, feet first, into the wonderful world of the Internet to our favourite sites, blogs and social media accounts. We know it can be hard to keep track of all the latest geeky news you care about. Previously we brought you the ultimate list of the Best Entertainment Blogs, Twitter Accounts and Podcasts You Need To Follow, we are following this up with our list of the best geek blogs you need to check out now. Like right now!

Nerd Coolture

Nerd Coolture is run by Marlon, a nerd who has been described by his friends as “a cool enthusiast of pop culture, comic books, Comic Con, and fashion.” We couldn’t agree more, with his mixture of fashion and geeky posts his blog is easily Vogue for the geek world.

Bored Panda

Bored Panda provide interesting and odd news stories and pride themselves on being a little offbeat. They are the place to go to if you are looking for cool products, breath-taking artwork and stories that make you stop, smile and then question the world in which we live in.

Pissed Off Geek

Pissed Off Geek has some great up-to-date content, with news on new movie posters, DVD reviews and funky pop culture artwork. There seems to be a bit of a horror focus here, so it is great if you like the crazier side of your entertainment news.

Zero Punctuation

Zero Punctuation is The Escapist’s very honest video game review series. It is the only video review blog that will have gamers dancing with glee and developers crying into their Wednesday morning coffee.

io9

io9 are the geek kings and are part of the Gizmodo world. They are a group of people who have “come from the future” to keep us up to date with all the stories we want to read about technology, comics and anything else that we can sink our nerdlingering eyes into.

The Mary Sue

A geek blog that isn’t written by a bunch of guys nerding out with other guys. The Mary Sue is a geek culture blog written by women. They are pioneers in the world wide geek at breaking down the stereotypes that girls don’t do comics and they don’t play video games.

The Nerdy Girlie

A girl after our own hearts! Megan at The Nerdy Girlie offers a variety of posts that make her not your usual blogger. From her galleria of Cosplay adventures to her views on her life through 100 cups of coffee, The Nerdy Girlie is a blog to check out right away. Our resident nerdy girlie can’t get enough of the nerd crafts part of the blog and is off to make a 3D glasses hairclip.

Engadget

Gadgets, gaming, news daily coverage of everything new in gadgets and consumer electronics are just some of the great topics covered by an 8ball favourite Engadget. What more could we want?

Den of Geek

Cult TV, movies and games reviewed with the occasional bad joke makes Den of Geek a must read. They are always on top of movie news and are our keep track on the entertainment world go-to morning read. That’s a thing, right?!

Machinima SBOC

Machinima are a part of the SBOC group and are friends of the team here at 8ball. With a brilliant sense of humour and a great take on the world, they bring us the latest in pop and geek culture featuring a community of cosplayers, gamers and movie buffs.

ForeverGeek

ForeverGeek are the guys who aim to bring you cool, less mainstream news and brag that if it’s not on Gizmodo or Engadget then this is the place where you’ll find it.

Supper Mario Broth

Simply put this is the go to place for screenshots, images and everything that you want to see from the world of Super Mario Bros. Oh the nostalgia!

Comically Vintage

Comically Vintage is a hilarious take on old school comics that simply offers you an image and lets your mind do the over thinking and implying. Check it out for a guaranteed pick me up.
